We offer 242 standard sizes, from compact 4x4 sheds through to large 30x14 buildings. When measuring your available space, allow for the building itself as well as sensible access around it where possible.

Apex sheds have a traditional two-sided pitched roof. Pent sheds have a single roof slope and are available with several door and window arrangements. Hipex sheds are particularly useful where extra headroom is important. Your surroundings can help determine the best choice too: for example, you may want roof water to fall away from a house wall or towards planting rather than a path.

Choose a position with a firm, level base and a practical route to the door. Where possible, leave some room around the shed for inspection, treatment and maintenance. Avoid allowing soil, leaves or dense vegetation to build up against the timber, and think about where roof water will drain.

Also check the delivery route before ordering. Gates, narrow side passages, sharp turns, steps and low overhead obstructions can all affect access for the shed sections.

Yes. The shed needs a firm, flat and level base that is ready before delivery and fitting. Concrete and suitably laid paving are common choices, but whichever method you use, the important point is that the finished base is level, stable and capable of supporting the building.

Good drainage around the base matters too. Standing water and permanently damp ground are best avoided.

Many domestic garden outbuildings can be built under permitted development rights, but the rules depend on the property, the building's position, height, intended use and where in the UK you live.

In England, important limits include a maximum overall height of 2.5 metres where an outbuilding is within 2 metres of a boundary, plus other restrictions covering eaves height, overall roof height, position and the amount of garden covered by buildings. Listed buildings, designated land and properties without normal permitted-development rights can be different.

Our shed structure is built around solid timber framework, timber cladding and a timber floor rather than sheet-board wall or floor construction. Naturally, a complete shed also uses non-timber components where appropriate, such as glazing, hinges, locks and roof coverings.

The main differences are the treatment, cladding thickness and framework specification. All of our shed frameworks are tanalised (pressure treated). Standard sheds use dip-treated cladding, Tanalised sheds use pressure-treated cladding, and Beast sheds step up to substantially heavier framework and thicker pressure-treated cladding for more demanding use.

The standard number of windows increases as the shed gets longer, and extra windows can be added. You can also choose between standard, security, summer-style or no windows, along with glazing and opener options where available.

Options include a standard 2.5ft door, a wider 3ft door, 4ft and 5ft double doors and a stable door. You can also choose the hinge side and add extra doors where the building layout allows.

If you regularly move bikes, machinery, mobility equipment or bulky garden furniture in and out, measuring the item before choosing the door is well worth doing.

Our security upgrade uses bolts rather than screws at key hinge and lock points and adds more framework around the door. Security windows are also available to bring in light while making access through the window more difficult.

For valuable contents, think of security as a complete system: strong door construction, hinges, hasp, padlock, limited visibility through windows and sensible positioning all work together.

Every shed has a pressure-treated timber floor and pressure-treated floor runners. Standard and Tanalised ranges use heavy-duty solid timber floorboards, while the Beast range uses an even heavier rebated floor construction.

If you intend to store unusually heavy equipment, extra floor runners can be added to increase support beneath the floor.

Our standard roof covering is heavy-duty 40kg green mineral felt. Onduline is available as an upgrade: it is a corrugated bituminous roofing sheet designed for long-term weather protection, with low maintenance requirements and useful noise-reducing properties.

Yes. Extra height can be added to any layout by adding up to three extra boards, with each board adding approximately 120mm to the wall height. This can be particularly useful for workshops, taller customers, shelving or equipment that needs more clearance.

Depending on the shed, you can add options such as overhangs and side extensions, breathable membrane, shelving, tanalised bearers, extra floor runners, ramps, partitions, extra doors and additional height.

These are easiest to choose by thinking about how the building will actually be used: access, storage weight, covered outdoor space, internal separation and future insulation are all useful considerations.

Yes. Roof overhangs can provide extra cover above the door, while extensions can create useful sheltered space to the side of the building. Extensions can be open-sided or have selected sides covered, and flooring can be added where required.

Yes. Treated timber ramps are available in widths to suit several door options and can be fixed or detachable. A ramp is particularly useful for wheeled machinery, bikes, mobility equipment and anything heavy that would otherwise need lifting over the threshold.

Yes. A timber partition can divide the shed into separate areas. You will normally need an extra door so each section can be accessed independently, and the required split can be specified when ordering.

In many cases, yes. We manufacture our own timber buildings and can produce a wide range of non-standard designs. If the normal shed customiser does not cover what you need, contact us with dimensions, sketches or drawings and we can discuss what is practical.

Delivery and fitting are included in eligible areas. Coverage and any location-dependent charge should always be checked against your postcode before ordering, as delivery arrangements can vary by area.

Our sheds arrive in sections, so the fitting team needs a clear and safe route from the vehicle to the prepared base. Check gate widths, alleyways, doorways, low roofs, steps, sharp turns and any other restrictions along the route.

If access is tight, through a property or otherwise unusual, tell us before delivery. Knowing in advance gives us the best chance to plan the shed sections and fitting correctly.

Normally, no. Where fitting is included for your order, our fitting team assembles the shed on your prepared base. Your main jobs are to make sure the base is ready, access is clear and we know exactly where and how you want the building positioned.

This can be arranged in suitable cases. Contact the office before ordering so we can confirm the delivery-only arrangement and provide the relevant assembly information.

Lead times vary through the year and can also depend on the size, specification and delivery area. Rather than publishing a time here that may quickly become out of date, we recommend checking the current estimate when you order or contacting the office for the latest position.

Yes, although the amount depends on the construction and treatment you choose. Dip-treated cladding needs an appropriate exterior timber treatment after installation and ongoing maintenance. Pressure-treated timber needs less routine treatment for rot protection, although you may still choose a suitable finish for appearance and additional weather protection.

Whatever the range, periodically check the roof, doors, windows, drainage, nearby vegetation and the area beneath the shed.

Yes. Insulation is common where a shed will be used as a workshop, hobby room or office. Plan the walls, roof, floor, ventilation and moisture control together rather than treating insulation as a single layer added afterwards.

A breathable membrane can provide an additional weather-resistant layer and is worth considering if you are planning an insulated interior.

Yes, but electrical work must be suitable for the environment and comply with the relevant electrical and Building Regulations requirements. We recommend using a suitably qualified electrician to design and install the supply, sockets, lighting and any fixed heating.

If you know you will want power, plan the cable route, socket positions, workbench and internal lining before filling the shed with storage.

Not necessarily. Wet bikes, mowers, tools and damp air can introduce a surprising amount of moisture, which can then condense on cooler surfaces. Maintain ventilation, avoid blocking every wall with tightly packed storage and allow wet equipment to dry where possible.

If moisture appears in one specific place after rain, or you can see damage to the roof covering, contact us so the cause can be checked.

Contact us as soon as you notice the issue. If possible, take clear photographs of the inside and outside of the affected area, including the roof or wall immediately above it. Photos taken while the issue is visible can make diagnosis much quicker.

Avoid making major alterations before speaking to us if the building is new or you believe the issue may be covered by a guarantee.

Get in touch and explain what you are seeing. Clear photographs or a short video are extremely helpful, particularly if they show the whole affected area as well as a close-up. Include your order details so we can identify the building and specification quickly.
