Framework, cladding & security
There are 3 framework and cladding specifications to choose from, including heavy-duty options. We can also add an extra security framework where the building needs even more reinforcement.
Windows & hatches
Add extra windows and choose security, standard or summer-style windows, with perspex or glass glazing and fixed or opening options. We can also build in practical hatches.
Doors & access
Add extra doors or choose standard doors, 4-foot double doors, 5-foot double doors, wider double doors or stable doors. You can also choose the hinge side to suit the approach and internal layout.
Roof, height & extensions
Choose felt or Onduline roofing, add extra height, and extend the usable space with roof overhangs or full extensions for sheltered working, storage or access areas.
Floor, base & weather protection
Specify tanalised bearers, extra floor runners, a breathable membrane and access ramps to create a building better suited to heavier loads, damp-prone locations and regular wheeled access.
Internal fit-out & practical extras
Make the inside work harder with partitions, shelving and workbenches. These can be combined with the door, window, security, roof and floor options above to create workshops, secure stores, hobby spaces and multi-purpose garden buildings. And if you need something else, ask us — many further bespoke combinations can be accommodated.
Heavy-duty, pressure-treated construction
The framework is a major part of the quality. Higher-specification builds use heavy-duty timber framing, and pressure-treated (tanalised) timber options and components provide excellent resistance to rot and decay. Pressure treatment drives preservative deep into the timber, making tanalised wood a very good long-term choice where durability and lower maintenance matter.

SOUTHAMPTON GARDEN SHED CASE STUDY
A 9 x 7 Hipex Beast Shed Installed on a Challenging Site in Southampton
This Southampton customer needed a strong, practical shed for a steep hillside garden where access was tight, the base layout was fixed, and the installation site sat right at the top of the plot among trees and dense vegetation.
For this project, the customer chose a 9 x 7 Hipex Beast shed with two windows, a 4-foot double door and tanalised bearers. It offered the right mix of internal space, robust construction and everyday practicality for a demanding garden setting.
Although the finished shed looks beautifully at home on its raised platform, getting it there was far from straightforward. The route to the rear of the property involved a narrow 1 metre access, a steep curved driveway and then a further climb up to the shed site itself, which sat at the top end of the garden among established trees and vegetation.
A layout planned around the base
There was already a raised concrete platform in place for the shed, complete with a retaining wall. That meant the layout of the building could not simply be chosen at random — the door position needed to be set carefully so the shed worked properly on the base and remained convenient to use once installed.
Because of this, clear communication before installation was essential. The customer appreciated that we understood the constraints, talked everything through properly and made sure the final arrangement suited both the platform and the surrounding garden.
Why the Hipex Beast was the right fit
The Hipex Beast range was a particularly good choice for this job because it combines a neat footprint with a strong, substantial build. The photographs show the solid internal framing, well-supported roof structure and quality timber finish that make it well suited to a site where durability matters.
The two windows help bring natural light into the interior, while the 4-foot double doors make access much easier when moving larger items in and out. The tanalised bearers also add another practical benefit by helping to protect the building where it meets the base.
An installation that others may have struggled with
This was exactly the sort of project where experience really counts. Between the tight rear access, steep approach, sloping garden and heavily planted surroundings, it would have been an awkward installation for many suppliers.
However, with the right preparation and an experienced fitting team, the whole job was completed without a hitch. The customer noted that the clear communication and practical know-how throughout the process made all the difference and helped turn a potentially difficult installation into a smooth one.
